Positive Action: Migrants against AIDS was founded in 1996. Since 2000 it has actively sought to improve the situation of HIV-positive persons with limited or non existent residence permission in Germany. The members of the organisation, many of them migrants and HIV-positive, are committed to achieve these objectives.
Based on the recognition that employment is the best means for foreigners to obtain permanent residence permits in Germany, a major thrust of Positive Action’s activities has been dedicated to the foundation and management of a non-profit enterprise named “Die Weltküche” (World Kitchen), which employed preferently HIV-positive Migrants. In the eight years since it first opened its doors, Die Weltküche has become internationally renowned.
Positive Action’s other activities include: supporting HIV-positive migrants with financial needs, participating in Network activities on migration and HIV / AIDS at local, national or international level, and facilitating the creation of self-help groups and initiatives.
Positive Action is a member of the German Joint Welfare Association, the National Alliance against AIDS and the German AIDS service Organisation and is accredited non-governmental organization status at the United Nations. |
